It deals with the various functional and ecological aspects of heavy metal stress on plants and the possibilities for remediation. The climate of India being arid to semiarid necessitates artificial irrigation for successful agriculture. Mostly effluents and sewage wastewater contains heavy metal ions like Pb, Cr, Cd, Ni, Hg and Fe. Their concentrations are variable in time and space. Farmers use these low cost industrial effluents and sewage waste water for raising crops. Therefore, soil and water near the factories and cities are being contaminated. The heavy metal contents in the vegetables sold in the market are not well known and also neglected aspect in our country. This book is focuses on research which establishes soil metal toxicity thresholds in agricultural plants. Cajanus cajan and Trigonella foenum-graecum are nutritionally important crop in India. This book represented experiments conducted to evaluate the effects of Cd and Zn toxicity on these crops regarding to the morphological, physiological, biochemical, anatomical and cytological parameters and various methods of their Phytoremediation.
