Description

Phytochemicals are widely studied for their ability to provide health benefits. Some phytochemicals are produced in the plants as part of their defense mechanism against pests and herbivores or as a means to gain an advantage during competition. Others serve as characteristics of biological groups used by taxonomists and aid the absorption and stability of essential nutrients in plants. The presence of these phytochemicals in living cells has recently stimulated the interest of manufacturing industries such as pharmaceuticals, as drug source, agrochemicals – for the supply of natural fungicides, insecticides, and pesticides, nutrition – such as flavoring and food colour. In addition, it has attracted the interest of many disciplines: Botany, Ecology, Pharmacology, and Biotechnology. About the Author The author is a PhD student of Ecosystems management at the Federal University of Technology Yola – Nigeria. He holds a Master's degree in Forest Biology and Ecology; a Bachelor of Technology degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management. He is a a Lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa - Nigeria.
