Global efforts are underway to develop chemotherapeutic agentsThe main thrust of work in the area of additional fused heterocyclic rings is stimulated by the isolation of a series of antitumor antibiotics such as anthramycin, sibiromycin, tomaymycin, prothacarin, chicamycins A,B and neothramycins A,B (to mention a few), from the pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]-benzodiazepine class of compounds These biosynthetically derived materials are well known for inhibiting DNA replication on account of the formation of DNA – antibiotic adduct .
