Die Diesellokbaureihe V 100 (ab 1970: Baureihe 110) gehört noch heute zu den bekanntesten Lokomotivbaureihen der Deutschen Reichsbahn. In verschiedenen technischen Ausführungen wurden zwischen 1966 und 1985 beim Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke „Hans Beimler“ in Hennigsdorf insgesamt fast 1.150 Maschinen gebaut, nachdem mit drei Musterlokomotiven die Einsatzfähigkeit dieser Baureihe ausgiebig erprobt wurde. Verbunden mit der Indienststellung der V 100 war die Ablösung der Dampftraktion im leichten bis mittelschweren Personen- und Güterzugdienst, wie z.B. der Baureihen 38.2-3, 38.10-40, 55.16-22 und 57.10-40. In zwei Bänden wird umfassend die Entwicklungs- und Einsatzgeschichte der Baureihe V 100 behandelt. Band 1 befasst sich mit der technischen Entwicklung und dem Bau der V 100, der Erprobung der Vorauslokomotiven und der Serienfertigung. Ausgiebig werden auch die verschiedenen Bauartvarianten der V 100 (Baureihen 108, 111, 112, 114, 115 und 1998) sowie die Umbauten bei Alstom und Adtranz in den neunziger Jahren beschrieben.
