Вещество нейтронных звезд представляет собойсверхплотную, быстро вращающуюся многокомпонентнуюплазму, аналогов которой в лабораторных условиях несуществует. Магнитные поля, наблюдаемые у нейтронныхзвезд, являются самыми сильными из известных вприроде. Сильные магнитные поля играют основную рольв наблюдательных проявлениях этих объектов. Полявлияют на их тепловую эволюцию и на кинетмческиесвойства плазмы, определяют свойства поверхности ихарактер различных нестационарных явлений. Поэтомупроблема происхождения сверхсильных магнитных полей,их структура и эволюция на разных этапах жизниявляется одной из центральных для астрофизикинейтронных звезд и, в более общем плане, для физикиэкстремального состояния вещества. В данной работерассмотрен широкий круг вопросов, относящихся кмагнитной гидродинамике нейтронных звезд. Основноевнимание уделено МГД устойчивости этих объектов ипроисхождению их магнитных полей. Также детальноисследуется магнитная и вращательная эволюциянейтронных звезд, находящихся в различных условиях.Книга расчитана на научных работников и студентовфизических специальностей, а также на всех читателей,интересующихся современной астрофизикой.
