Description
Namibia, la independencia más tardía de África, vio el fin de la ocupación sudafricana en 1989 y desde entonces ha constituido un ejemplo notable de proceso democratizador exitoso en la región. El movimiento secesionista de la franja de Caprivi, sin embargo, supone uno de los grandes desafíos a la legitimidad de Namibia como Estado nacional, con capacidad de reconocimiento de su vasta pluralidad étnica y su compleja historia colonial. El levantamiento armado en agosto de 1999 (si bien rápidamente sofocado por el gobierno namibio) conduce a las raíces históricas del movimiento ciudadano que lo sustenta, así como a la percepción popular de descontento con el gobierno por parte de la ciudadanía capriviana. El presente trabajo se aproxima a las diversas raíces históricas del movimiento independentista capriviano, enclavando su estudio en los debates africanos sobre las relaciones entre Estados nacionales, etnicidad y herencia poscolonial. Esta investigación contribuye, pues, a esclarecer los fenómenos multicausales del secesionismo capriviano y aventura posibles respuestas, explicaciones y prospecciones para el presente y el futuro próximo de la franja de Caprivi en el Estado namibio.
