Culturas de contacto, en el Nuevo Mundo, son las formadas a raíz del encuentro que tuvieron entre mediados del siglo XVI y finales del siglo XIX, grupos de colonos e indios mesoamericanos aliados, durante la conquista del septentrión novohispano (actual norte de México y suroeste de los Estados Unidos), en busca de minas y utopías (Cíbola, las siete ciudades del oro, etc.), enfrentándose a su paso, con diversos grupos de nativos nómadas y sedentarios, portadores de las llamadas culturas del desierto, despareciendo muchos de estos grupos, al integrarse a las poblaciones norteñas. Mientras que otros, como los llamados apaches, resistieron hasta finales del siglo XIX, conservando su autonomía, teniendo que negociar con ellos, proporcionándoles víveres, caballos y armas, para que se mantuvieran en paz. Este encuentro, permitió se formaran diversas culturas regionales. Parto de un estudio histórico-antropológico, para establecer cómo se construyó la cultura regional ubicada entre los antiguos territorios que comprendían la Antigua Nueva Vizcaya (Chihuahua y Durango), y Nuevo México, comparando semejanzas y diferencias respecto a la cultura oficial, o nacional mexicana.
