Nous avons l'intuition que pour évaluer une image, il faut s'en tenir à ce qu'il est possible de voir en la regardant. En même temps, nous considérons spontanément que pour certaines évaluations, notamment artistiques, les intentions de l'artiste peuvent avoir une pertinence. Ces deux assertions sont pourtant incompatibles, les intentions de l'artiste n'étant pas visibles. Face à ce constat, de nombreux auteurs ont nié la pertinence des intentions dans le processus d'évaluation. En prenant le dessin comme cas d'étude, ce livre suggère que les deux assertions sont compatibles car les propriétés d'une image sont perçues comme le résultat d'un processus intentionnel. Après avoir élaboré une théorie psychologique de l'apprentissage du dessin, Alessandro Pignocchi montre que les traits d'un dessin sont perçus comme le fruit d'intentions et d'actions que l'observateur aurait lui-même pu produire. La justesse de cette ' perception motrice ' dépend tant des propriétés visuelles du dessin que du savoir-faire de l'observateur. Ce livre s'adresse aux lecteurs intéressés par les processus d'attribution d'intentions et par la psychologie de la relation à l'?uvre d'art.
