Para conocer los principales grupos taxonómicos bacterianos presentes en dos arrecifes del Parque Nacional Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano (PNSAV), suroeste del Golfo de México, se realizaron muestreos en los arrecifes de Isla Verde y Punta Gorda. A partir de muestras ambientales y cultivos, se caracterizaron e identificaron bacterias planctónicas y bentónicas a través de la secuenciación del gen 16S ARNr. Se encontraron 33 phyla en donde los sedimentos presentaron mayor diversidad que la columna de agua. La mayoría de las cepas aisladas resultaron ligeramente halófilas y produjeron enzimas hidrolíticas (amilasas, lipasas, esterasas y quitinasas) mientras otras, bajo condiciones termofílicas, presentaron actividad antimicrobiana y biodesulfuradora. En conclusión, el PNSAV es fuente de una gran variedad de bacterias mesófilas, psicrófilas y termófilas, con aplicaciones de interés para la industria biotecnológica. Además, la estructura poblacional bacteriana de los arrecifes estudiados, podría servir como referencia del estado de salud de los mismos.
