Diplomarbeit, die am 30.01.2003 erfolgreich an einer Universität in Deutschland im Fachbereich Erziehungswissenschaftliche Fakultät eingereicht wurde. Einleitung: Der Umgang mit Menschen mit Behinderung(en) in unserer Gesellschaft ist insgesamt von der immer differenzierter gewordenen Ausgrenzung dieser Personengruppe in spezialisierte und zentralisierte Sondereinrichtungen bestimmt. Schon im Elementarbereich trifft man auf Sonderkindergärten für Geistigbehinderte, Sprachbehinderte, Sehgeschädigte, Hörgeschädigte, Körperbehinderte etc. Im schulischen Bereich gliedert sich dieses System von Sondereinrichtungen noch weiter auf. In den letzten Jahren jedoch wurde die Integration von Menschen mit Behinderung(en) zu einem immer häufiger diskutierten Thema, wesentliche Anstöße hierzu kamen aus dem Ausland (z.B. aus den skandinavischen Ländern, den USA). Ende der 70er Jahre gab es in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland nur vereinzelt integrativ arbeitende Kindergärten und auch heute verbreitet sich die integrative Erziehungsform eher langsam. Das Deutsche Jugendinstitut e.V. hat über mehrere Jahre hinweg integrative Einrichtungen in den alten Bundesländern beobachtet und u.a. festgestellt, dass in verhältnismäßig vielen integrativ arbeitenden Einrichtungen die Montessori-Pädagogik zum Einsatz kam. Mit der Wiedervereinigung stieg auch in den neuen Bundesländern das Interesse an diesem pädagogischen Konzept - es entstanden Montessori-Kinderhäuser und Montessori-Schulen, die zum Großteil integrativ arbeiten. Gegenwärtig steigt noch immer die Zahl der national und international neu gegründeten unterschiedlichsten Montessori-Einrichtungen, daneben ist eine weltweite Aktualität der über Maria Montessori publizierten Literatur festzustellen. Ausgangspunkt für Maria Montessoris pädagogisches Konzept sind Psychologie und Physiologie, sowie ihre Erfahrungen die sie als Ärztin mit geistig behinderten Kindern gesammelt hatte. Sie war am
