Le modèle étudié est l’agent phytopathogène vasculaire Ralstonia solanacearum, d’origine tellurique et très diversifié, tant au plan génétique que phénotypique. Sa classification en constante évolution témoigne d’une volonté de clarifier cette biodiversité inhabituellement forte, tout en cherchant à reconnaître les écotypes structurant ce complexe d’espèces. L’adaptation de souches aussi diverses à un hôte donné ou pour la tolérance au froid nous a conduit à dresser un bilan de la situation R. solanacearum en Europe et, in extenso, dans le bassin méditerranéen. Notre approche en génomique comparative nous a donné l'opportunité de décrire le premier pangénome chez cet agent pathogène et les approches bio-informatiques permettent de concevoir une refonte pertinente du complexe d’espèces R. solanacearum en trois nouvelles espèces génomiques. La densité des données expérimentales accumulées par le biais d'une puce à ADN pangénomique a permis une démarche vers l’écologie moléculaire, et de reconstituer certains pans du passé évolutif des principaux écotypes du phylotype II: les souches Brown Rot, Moko et émergentes.
