Die akute myeloische Leukämie ist eine dramatisch verlaufende Erkrankung, die nur durch eine sehr aggressive Therapie behandelt werden kann und die etwa ein Fünftel aller Patienten langfristig überleben. Infolge der Erkrankung und Therapie ist davon auszugehen, dass die Lebensqualität dieser Patienten zunächst deutlich eingeschränkt ist. In dieser begleitenden Beobachtungsstudie lag das Hauptaugenmerk des Interesses auf den Fragen „Was beeinflusst die Lebensqualität des Patienten?“ und „Wie lassen sich mögliche Einflussfaktoren ermitteln?“ Der Autor verwandte sowohl quantitative als auch qualitative Erhebungsmöglichkeiten, mit denen zunächst Veränderungen der Lebensqualität und des körperlichen Gesundheitsstatus der Patienten im Verlauf ermittelt wurden. Darüber hinaus konnten auch psycho-soziale und situationsbedingte Belastungsfaktoren sowie individuelle Gesichtspunkte der Erkrankten gesammelt und dargestellt werden. Hierdurch ergab sich ein differenziertes Bild von Patienten mit akuter myeloischer Leukämie.
