Die Arbeit beschreibt die Entwicklung und Validierung einer Analysenmethode zur Bestimmung des Todeszeitpunkts von Elefanten. Dazu werden in deren Elfenbein die Radionuklide C-14, Th-228 und Th-232 analysiert. Durch den C-14 Wert lässt sich der mögliche Zeitbereich mit Hilfe des Vergleichs mit sogenannten Bombenkurven relativ gut ermitteln. Aufgrund des Verlaufs einer Bombenkurve ergeben sich aber oft zwei gleich wahrscheinliche Zeitbereiche. Um daraus den richtigen zu ermitteln werden die Ergebnisse der Thoriumanalysen benötigt. Durch das Zusammenspiel der beiden Parameter ist in den meisten Fällen eine korrekte Abschätzung des Todeszeitraums möglich. Da die Analyten nur in sehr geringen Mengen in der Probenmatrix Elfenbein vorkommen, werden speziell optimierte Analysenmethoden in der Arbeit beschrieben, mit denen eine hinreichend genaue und sichere Bestimmung möglich ist.
