Der Konsum von MDMA (Ecstasy) hat in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten durch die Techno- und Rave-Szene an Bedeutung gewonnen und ist unter Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen weit verbreitet. Bereits kurz nach der Patentierung stand MDMA im Verdacht, neurotoxisch zu wirken. Die Ergebnisse der wenigen MR-spektroskopischen Untersuchungen sind heterogen, weisen jedoch auch methodische Mängel auf. Durch die Auswahl des Probandenkollektivs sowie die "state-of-the-art"-Auswertung der Daten gelingt es in der vorliegenden Studie, eine Vielzahl konfundierender Störvariablen zu eleminieren.
