Aufgrund unterschiedlicher Anforderungen an die Konsistenz und ihrer Umsetzung gibt es eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Konsistenzmodelle, die je nach Definition mehr oder weniger starke Auswirkungen auf die Kommunikation zwischen den miteinander vernetzten Cluster-Rechnern und die Performanz ihrer Aktivitätsträger haben können. Hierdurch motiviert werden in diesem Buch Ansätze und Möglichkeiten diskutiert, wie sich im Gegensatz zu vielen Systemen, welche lediglich ein Konsistenzmodell anbieten, mehrere Konsistenzmodelle gleichzeitig in einem verteilten System realisieren lassen und welche Verfahren zur Verwaltung und Organisation eines verteilten Speichers eingesetzt werden können.
