In dieser Arbeit wurde ein Beitrag zur Synthese und Modifizierung von Azachinonen geleistet. Basierend auf einer in der Arbeitsgruppe von Prof. Beckert entwickelten Kaskadenreaktion konnte die Anzahl bisher bekannter Chinone mit Bipyridin-Substruktur beträchtlich erweitert werden. In weiteren Modifizierungen wurden Zugänge zu hydroxyl- bzw. carboxylfunktionalisierten Azachinonen aufgezeigt, welche bei Tests sehr gute Eigenschaften für die Verwendung als Dark Quencher bei der RTq-PCR aufwiesen und teilweise patentiert wurden. Die Bildung von Regioisomeren bei asymmetrisch substituierten Naphtho- und Benzochinonen wurde ebenfalls untersucht. In weiteren Studien wurden quantenchemische Berechnungen für den thermodynamischen Energieunterschied der Isomere durchgeführt sowie spektrale Eigenschaften im UV/Vis-Bereich simuliert. Prinzipiell eignen sich die Azachinone auch als Komplexliganden für katalytisch relevante Metalle. So entsteht mit Allylpalladium(II)chlorid ein Komplex, bei dem das Metall nur am Pyridinstickstoff koordiniert ist. Diese Komplexierungen demonstrieren die grundsätzliche Möglichkeit der Verwendung von Azachinonen als redoxaktive Chromophorliganden.
