Description

Fidel Castros Revolution wurde 1959 vielerorts als Aufbruch in eine bessere Zukunft begrüßt. Viele Kubaner und Teile der Weltöffentlichkeit waren fasziniert von den bärtigen Revolutionären, die aus den Bergen kamen und die Gesellschaft zum Besseren zu verändern schienen. Der Jubel der ersten Jahre verstummte jedoch recht bald angesichts der rigiden Vorgaben und Zwänge einer zunehmend totalitär ausgeprägten Diktatur. Jahrzehnte später besang der kubanische Liedermacher Carlos Varela das starre System in seinem Lied "Die Politik passt in keine Zuckerfabrik" folgende Zeile: "Ein Freund kaufte sich einen 59er Chevrolet, wollte keine Teile auswechseln, und jetzt bewegt er sich nicht." Das Lied wurde verboten. Diese Arbeit erforscht wie Musiker und Liedermacher durch vier Jahrzehnte (1959-1999) in der kubanischen Gesellschaft und mit der "Revolution" leben und überleben: Einerseits gefördert von einer effizienten Musikerausbildung. Andererseits begrenzt durch ein rigides Staatsmusikersystem. Limitiert und gleichzeitig inspiriert durch ein straffes Korsett der Zensur, das Fidel Castro 1961 selbst mit "Innerhalb der Revolution jedes, gegen die Revolution kein Recht" definiert hat.
