"Sie sind schon berühmt. Jetzt werden Sie mich berühmt machen", sagte der Fotograf Lawrence Schiller zu Marilyn Monroe, als sie über die Fotos redeten, die er von ihr machen sollte. "Seien Sie nicht so eingebildet", neckte ihn Marilyn, "Fotografen sind leicht zu ersetzen." Das war 1962, der 25-jährige Schiller war im Auftrag von Paris Match in Hollywood und sollte Marilyn am Set ihres neuen Films "Something's Got to Give" fotografieren. Er kannte Marilyn schon - die beiden waren einander bei den Dreharbeiten zu Machen wir's in Liebe begegnet -, aber nichts in der Welt hätte ihn auf den Tag vorbereiten können, als sie sich bei den nun anstehenden Filmaufnahmen nackt am Swimmingpool präsentierte. "Marilyn war schon, wenn sie Kleider anhatte, das Traummotiv jedes Fotografen und sogar noch umwerfender ohne. Ihre nasse Haut glänzte. Ihre Augen funkelten. Ihr Lächeln war aufreizend", erinnerte sich Schiller an den Moment, der für ihn zum Karrierebooster wurde und Marilyn die erhofften Schlagzeilen und Titelseiten der Magazine einbrachten. Marilyn & Me erzählt die Geschichte von einem Idol, das kaum drei Monate später unter immer noch ungeklärten Umständen verstarb, und einem jungen Fotografen aus Brooklyn, der noch ganz am Anfang seiner Laufbahn stand. Mit mehr als 100 Bildern, darunter seltene Outtakes von den Aufnahmen zu Marilyns letztem Film ist dieses Buch ein wahres und zugleich unerwartetes Porträt des Stars in seinen letzten Lebensmonaten.
