Reuse is the attitude of not re-inventing the wheel over and over again. There are many ways of making reuse work. We deal with it in everyday life, so why not also in IT? What is the difference between using and re-using? You can use a dish for food, and if you did not choose a party dish you can even re-use it for your next meal. Software reuse is not only about re-using the code of your last application on which you spent weeks to polish. It is a structured approach similar to quality management and a continous process similar to quality assurance which begins before the software lifecycle starts and ends after it. The topic becomes even more interesting when it comes to quality. A wood drill may be good for making holes into wood, but usually you would not use it for making holes into marble walls. The book gives insights on how software reuse can contribute to your business and shows some key practices of how to make reuse work. About the Author Karem Hussein graduated from the Technical University of Vienna in computer science with a focus on practical software engineering. He lectured courses on software quality management and worked for aviation and telco companies. He wants to raise the understanding of complex IT processes by giving insight and making them measurable.
