Die vorliegenden Studien zur Philosophie der Griechen zur Zeit der Klassik sollen eine Lucke schliessen. Zwar gibt es eine enorme Zahl an Forschungsliteratur zu einzelnen Philosophen wie Anaxagoras, Parmenides, Demokrit, Sokrates und naturlich Platon und Aristoteles - nicht zu vergessen die Logik der Megariker mit ihren Paradoxien, die bis in die moderne Mathematik weiterwirkt. Es fehlt jedoch eine umfassende Darstellung der klassischen griechischen Philosophie. Die Studien sind historisch und systematisch angelegt. Es geht in ihnen um den Begriff der Klassik und die Chronologie derselben, ferner um die klassischen Teildisziplinen Ontologie, Logik, Erkenntnistheorie, Metaphysik und Ethik. Daruber hinaus werden grosse Entwicklungslinien dieser Epoche der Philosophie thematisiert und Konstanten aufgezeigt. Die einschlagigen Texte der namhaftesten Philosophen werden in Ubersetzung geboten, um den Zugang zu erleichtern. Dies gilt ebenso fur die Appendizes mit Texten in Ubersetzung zur griechischen Logik, Erkenntnistheorie und Dialektik.
