Das vorliegende Buch handelt von zwei herausragenden Dichter-Philosophen, die selten in einem Atemzug genannt werden. Entscheidendes ist ihnen gemein: die grundlegenden Reformideen fur die Wissenschaft, die heftige Kritik an Gelehrten, das Interesse an der platonischen Naturphilosophie. Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) besitzt als Laie ausserordentliche Kenntnisse in der Kosmologie. Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) schreibt zeitlebens kunstvolle Poesie uber seine Astronomie. Beide Autoren bringen in ihren Dialog-Gedichten zentrale Fragen des Diskurses um Weltbilder allegorisch zur Sprache: Dante, als die Rezeption der 'anderen' Antike einsetzt, Kepler auf dem Hohepunkt ihrer Wiederentdeckung nach Kopernikus. Erstmals werden in der vorliegenden Studie literarische Texte der (spat)antiken Philosophie zusammenhangend vorgestellt, in denen das 'vergessene Wissen' bewahrt wurde. Nicht nur Dichtern, auch Astronomen der Renaissance dienten sie als 'Bruckentexte'. Dadurch wird gezeigt, welche bedeutende Rolle die Dichtung innerhalb der Geschichte der Wissenschaften hatte.
