Alter und Pflege sind hoch brisante Themen im öffentlichen, besonders im gesundheits- und sozialpolitischen Raum. Sie sind aber auch gleichsam strukturierte und strukturierende Gesellschaftsdimensionen. Insbesondere die Pflege hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren zu einem eigenen gesellschaftlichen Teilbereich entwickelt, der in vielerlei Hinsicht mit anderen Gesellschaftsfeldern verwoben ist. Klaus R. Schroeter entwirft ein auf verschiedenen Theorien basierendes Rahmenkonzept der Figurativen Felder, das er sodann exemplarisch an der spezifischen Figuration der Pflege in der Lebensphase Alter darstellt. Das figurative Feld der Pflege wird als ein in sich differenzierter (und in eine Vielzahl von Subfeldern untergliederter) gesellschaftlicher Teilbereich im Gesundheitssystem mit spezifischen und spezialisierten Akteuren skizziert, der über eigene materiale und soziale Ressourcen verfügt und nach eigenen Regeln und Logiken funktioniert. Es wird als ein relationales Kräftefeld entworfen, das immer zugleich Deutungsrahmen, Strukturrahmen und Handlungsrahmen figuriert. Der Autor zeigt auf, wie sich im naturwissenschaftlichen Schatten der Medizin Pflege-Diskurse entwickeln und zu einem Macht-/Wissens-Komplex formieren. Am Beispiel des pflegerischen Blicks wird deutlich, wie sich habitualisierte Deutungsschemata in strategischen Pflegepraktiken materialisieren und in das auf Regulierung und Norm(alis)ierung der Gesamtbevölkerung zielende Dispositiv der "Bio-Politik" integrieren.
