Auf dem neuesten Stand der wissenschaftlichen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Diskussion und ausgestattet mit einem kommentierten Verzeichnis von Initiativen gegen Rechtsextremismus, wendet sich das Grundlagenwerk sowohl an ein Fach- als auch an ein Laienpublikum. Die Förderung von demokratischem Handeln und Bürgerengagement sind angezeigt, denn antidemokratische Diskurse im politischen Spektrum verbreitern und intensivieren sich. Dabei stehen die Ethnisierung der Betrachtung gesellschaftlicher Verhältnisse sowie Absagen an die Menschenrechte im Mittelpunkt. Es besteht ein Netzwerk von heterogen rechtsextrem-orientierten Gruppierungen, die auf kommunaler Ebene als kulturelle, politische und geistige Institution fest etabliert und vielfach in der Öffentlichkeit dominant sind. Die rechtsextremen, völkischen und antidemokratischen Potenziale nehmen offensichtlich in Deutschland weiter zu. Diese zu benennen und zu analysieren, um ihnen wirkungsvoll entgegentreten zu können, ist erklärtes Ziel des Handbuchs. Das wesentlich aus der Arbeit des Zentrum Demokratische Kultur (ZDK) hervorgegangene Handbuch gibt durch Fachartikel und einen Rechercheteil zu Personen und Organisationen einen umfassenden Überblick über den gegenwärtigen deutschen Rechtsextremismus in all seinen ideologischen und organisatorischen Facetten und Ausformungen. Außerdem beinhaltet das Buch ein kommentiertes Verzeichnis von Initiativen gegen Rechtsextremismus. Als Nachschlagewerk zu allen Bereichen des gegenwärtigen deutschen Rechtsextremismus ist es sowohl Fachleuten als auch "Laien" hilfreich.
