Kenntnisse und Konzepte fiber die Wirklichkeit von Mutterschaft leiten sowohl das tradierte volkstumliche als auch das wissenschaftliche Wissen zu jeder Zeit aus der Kultur ab, in die beide Wis sensfonnen selbst eingebettet sind. Kultur aber baut auf Erfahrungen und Ideen, auf Wahmehmungen und Wesensschau auf. So geht unser heutiges Verstandnis von Mutterschaft basierend auf den biologischen Voraussetzungen, wie es schon das Kinderzitat andeutet, von zwei Blickrichtungen aus: einmal von dem Gedanken einer allen historischen und sozialen Befindlichkeiten vorgegebenen, wesenhaften Mutterqualitltt, die weitgehend mythisch gesehen und verstanden wird, und zum anderen von der faktischen Mutterposition im sozialen Netzwerk und ihren geschichtlichen Bedingungen sowie damit verbunden von der gesellschaftlichen Struktur und Ordnung, die sich vor allem in den Wertungen, Bindungen und Beziehungen zum Kind darstellen. Das Vorhandensein von Kindem konstituiert erst tat sachliche Mutterschaft. Ohne Kind keine Mutter! Die seinsmaBige Kompetenz zur Mutterschaft mufi erst faktisch ausgefullt werden. Die Hohe der Kinder zahl bestimmt dabei zwar nicht die Mutterqualitltt, laBt aber eine gewisse Bewahrungsbereitschaft zum Muttersein vennuten.
