Gibt es derzeit auch keine allgemeingilltige Theorie fiber die Atiologie und Patbogenese dementieller Syndrome, so wird doch davon ausgegangen, daB diese schweren psychi schen Erlaankungen organisch bedingt sind Dementsprechend liegen auch die Schwer punkte in der medikam.enWsen Bebandlung, obwohl von dieser noch keine entscheidende Verlinderung des Krankheitsverlaufes bewirkt werden kann. Derzeit dominiert eher ein the rapeutischer Nihilismus der Ante, eine resignative Halbmg des Pflegepersonals und eine Hilfs-und Hoffnungslosigkeit der AngehOrigen. AIlerdings gibt es seit einigen Jahren immer mehr Geriater und Gerontopsychiater sowie betroffene AngehOrige, die sich Dicht mehr mit der ,,schicksa1haftigkeit" der Demenzerkrankung abfmden und nach M6glichkei ten eines verlinderten Umgangs mit Demenzkranken suchen. Was verleitet Psychotherapeuten verschiedenster "Schulen" dazu, sich dieser schwer sten allerpsychischen Erkrankungen zuzuwenden, Atiologie und Pathogenese zuhinterfragen und nach M6glichkeiten der Psychotherapie zu suchen und praktisch anzuwenden. Die meisten anerkannten Psychotherapieverfahren setzen voraus, daB der zu beban delude Patient fiber gute psychische Grundfunktionen (z.B. Wahmehmung, Konzentration, Ge unverstandlicher und mi6verstilndlicher Weise, k6nnen aber bis zum schwersten Stadium therapeutisch beeinfluSt werden.
