Verbindungen der Systeme Oxid-Wasser gehören zu einem der ältesten und meistuntersuchten Gebiete der anorganischen Chemie. Neue Synthese verfahren, die Züchtung von Einkristallen und eine Verbesserung der Me thoden der Strukturaufklärung gaben hier in den letzten zwanzig Jahren zu einer stürmischen Entwicklung Anlaß. Die dabei erzielten Ergebnisse haben dazu geführt, daß das gesamte Gebiet unter Berücksichtigung der drei Aggregatzustände unter einem einheitlichen Gesichtspunkt zusammengeiaßt werden kann. Im ersten Teil dieses Beitrages wird der jetzt erreichte Stand der For schung in 6 Kapiteln beschrieben, die als Schwerpunkte der modernen Ent wicklung des Gebietes angesehen werden. Im zweiten und dritten Teil folgt eine mehr in's Detail gehende Behandlung der Verbindungen der Systeme Oxid-Wasser und der Oxide von den Haupt-und Nebengruppenelementen.
