Description

The purpose of the "Aegeum" series is to shed light on the Roman conquest of the Greek East from an economic viewpoint. The first volume of the series, edited by Richard Ashton and Nathan Badoud, is the result of collaborative? research into the coinages of the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. Its ten contributions allow us to uncover how the Romans gained control over the economic resources of the Greek cities, and to follow the gradual emergence of the denarius as the dominant silver coinage of the Aegean region. More generally, they advance our understanding of how the ancient economy functioned, and mark an important methodological advance in the analysis of the coinages of the Hellenistic period.
