English summary: In August 1934, architect Bruno Taut began to expand and direct provincial workshop operations for his client in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture: Japanese artisans crafted utilitarian objects and furniture according to his designs and the work plans of his collaborators. German description: Ab August 1934 begann der Architekt Bruno Taut, Gebrauchsgegenstande und Mobel zu entwerfen. Die Prototypen wurden nach Werkplanen seiner Mitarbeiter von Kunsthandwerkern der Region gefertigt. Tauts Auftraggeber, Fusa'ichiro Inoue und die Industrie-Versuchsanstalt in Takasaki, wollten die Qualitat der japanischen Produktion verbessern. Etwa 100 Skizzen sowie uber 200 zugehorige Zeichnungen und eine groae Anzahl fertiger Objekte sind dokumentiert. Uberliefert ist damit Tauts uberbordende Schaffenskraft im Kunstgewerbe, die neben seinem architektonischen Werk in Deutschland im Rang eines eigenen Oeuvres steht: von Haushaltsgegenstanden und Accessoires in Holz, Bambus und Lack bis zu Stoffmustern, Stuhlen und Tischen. Zugleich war Taut gefragter Berater fur Unternehmer sowie fur das Staatliche Kunstgewerbeinstitut in Sendai, dem er nach dem Vorbild des Deutschen Werkbundes programmatische Konzepte fur die Qualitatsverbesserung japanischer Exportware lieferte. Der Band entfaltet dieses Wirken mit Schriften, Briefen und Tagebucheintragen Tauts, hinzu kommen fast 500 Abbildungen.
