For many years, the Devil's Guy from Hell's Kitchen has been a guarantee for visionary American comic art. That wasn't always the case. At the end of the 1970s, the blind lawyer's series was in crisis. Even for those circumstances, stories and opponents were quite whimsical. The title was about to go out when a young, aspiring artist threw his hat into the ring. Until now, Frank Miller had significantly illustrated covers or acted as a backup drawer. Now he has been entrusted with his own series for the first time. Tuscher Klaus Janson has been on board with interruptions since 1975. Together with author Roger McKenzie, they explored Matt Murdock's roots and brought investigative journalist Ben Urich and Daredevil's best enemy into the spotlight: Bullseye, an ice-cold killer who never misses his target. But it was only the freight for perhaps the most exciting change in Marvel history. It became really serious and gloomy when Miller also took over the writing. Hell's Kitchen, the rough quarter of Irish migrants in which he himself had lived, served as a sinister backdrop from now on. To kick off, Miller and Janson Murdock's youth love Elektra, shortly afterwards introduced his mentor stick and the ninjas of the hand. The crime king Wilson Fisk, actually an arch-enemy Spider-Mans, became a brilliant antagonist next to Bullseye. When Miller set out to new shores, he had created a proud flagship from a dilapidated barge. This collection takes you to a past, innocent time. The US comic was in a kind of finding phase and adorned itself to grow up. But Frank Miller and Klaus Janson lit the beacon at the end of the tunnel. A new era announced itself, a radical change of direction. Two pioneers paved the man without fear the way through the darkness into the light. And an entire industry followed.
