Es ist eine unleugbare Tatsache, daB die medizinische Wissenschaft sich immer mehr spezialisiert. Ob dies richtig ist oder nicht, solI dahingestellt bleiben, die Tatsache bleibt aber bestehen. Die Padiatrie hat vielleicht noch am hart nackigsten ihre Einheit zu bewahren versucht und wollte immer das Kind als eine pathologische Einheit betrachten. Wie lange dieses Bestreben der Padiatrie erhalten bleiben wird, wissen wir nicht; die Umrisse der Spezialisierung auch innerhalb der Kinderheilkunde sind aber schon da, so auch auf dem Gebiete der Tuberkulose des Kindesalters. Wer sich ala Kinderarzt mit der Tuberkulose der Kinder eingehender beschaftigen will, der muB bald anerkennen, daB er . ohne ausgiebige rontgenologische und phthisiologische Ausbildung sehr schwer weiterkommen wird. Eben diese Grenzgebiete verlangen eine gewisse Spezialisie rung auch innerhalb der Kinderheilkunde. Jene Rontgenologen und Lungen facharzte hingegen, die sich mit der Tuberkulose der Kinder beschaftigen wollen, miissen sich in die verschiedenen Eigenschaften des Kindesalters so vertiefen, daB sie dadurch die Tuberkulose des Kindesalters besser verstehen sollen. Das Ziel dieses Buches ist, die verschiedenen Anspriiche so auszugleichen, . daB innerhalb der Kinderheilkunde auch die Fortschritte der Grenzgebiete bei der ·Tuberkulose des Kindesalters beriicksichtigt werden sollen.
