Der Gegenstand der Soziologie ist das Politische, auch außerhalb ihres eigens dafür vorgesehenen Ressorts, der Politischen Soziologie. Und die Soziologie ist eine politische Wissenschaft auch da, wo sie selber nichts davon zu wissen scheint oder wo sie es ausdrücklich abstreitet. Sie ver ändert Gesellschaft, indem sie verborgene gesellschaftliche Funktions mechanismen ins kollektive Bewußtsein hebt. Die Wirkungsweise solcher Mechanismen wird aber als bekanntgemachte eine andere, weil das sozia le Handeln sich anders darauf einstellt. Daher muß die Soziologie, die sie bekannt gibt, selber als soziales Subjekt, muß ihre wissenschaftliche Arbeit als eine den gesellschaftlichen Prozeß mit-determinierende Kraft verstanden werden. Ihre determinative Funktion reguliert die Soziologie dabei in regulativen Ideen, die sie jedoch (vielleicht um sich angesichts des Prestiges der exakten Wissenschaften besser als diesen gleichgear tet empfehlen zu können) zu verdrängen neigt. Aber wenn sie auch durch aus unartikuliert im Hintergrund bleiben, bestimmen sie doch das Licht, das auf die im Vordergrund stehenden Gegenstände fällt. Die vorliegende Untersuchung rückt die regulativen Ideen der gegenwär tig am meisten diskutierten Versuche ins Licht, den gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhang in seinen tragenden Strukturen zu erfassen: die Versuche der Systemtheorie in der Fassung von Talcott Parsons und der Konflikt theorie in der Fassung von Ralf Dahrendorf. Im Plan der Untersuchung liegt dabei, durch Manifestation der latenten Politikbegriffe der beiden Theorien einen möglichst direkten und möglichst zentralen Zugang zur praxeologischen Selbstbestimmung der gegenwärtigen Soziologie zu er öffnen.
