Die Ultraschalldiagnostik als nicht invasive Untersuchungstechnik hat in zahlrei chen Fächern der Medizin bereits einen festen Platz. Eigentümlichkeiten der Ultraschallreflexion knöcherner Strukturen des Hal tungs- und Bewegungsapparates haben jedoch diesem Untersuchungsverfahren im orthopädischen Fache erst verzögert Eingang verschafft. Anstoß eines zunehmenden Einsatzes der Sonographie zur Erkennung von Schäden der Weichteilstrukturen des Haltungs- und Bewegungsapparates lieferten die Untersuchungen von R. Graf mit der erfolgreichen sonographischen Früher kennung der Hüftfehlanlagen. Die Weiterentwicklung dieser Untersuchungstechnik ist sicher noch nicht abgeschlossen. Weitere Problemstellungen in der Orthopädie bieten sich zur sono graphischen Überprüfung an. Anwendungsmöglichkeiten und Aussagekraft, wie technische Voraussetzungen der Anwendung der Ultraschalldiagnostik, werden mit knapp gehaltenem Text und zahlreichen Abbildungen, ergänzt durch Zeichnungen, in dem Buch "Arthro sonographie" dargestellt. Irrtumsmöglichkeiten des Verfahrens werden erläutert. Das vorliegende Buch ist die konsequente Fortführung der Anwendung der Ultraschalldiagnostik in Orthopädie und Rheumatologie und liefert die Basis für den Einsatz der Sonographie im Praxis-Alltag. Jeder, der sich mit Untersuchungs techniken am Haltungs- und Bewegungsapparat befaßt, wird sich dieser Arbeit dankbar bedienen.
