Description

Fishes of the Chindwin River Basin is a piece of work on the freshwater fishes of the Chindwin River basin in the eastern Himalayas and Indo-Burma region. The region has purely isolated hill stream and thus have large numbers of endemic species having both ornamental and food values. The diversity is also attributed to the varied ecological conditions. The book provides taxonomy of fishes, key to species, distribution, local name, IUCN threat criteria and their status of 151 species of 76 genera under 27 families and 9 orders. The book also examines the current scenario of environmental challenges and anthropogenic threats and makes a presumptuous attempt towards sustainable use and conservation of the rich freshwater fish diversity found in the region.
