Description

Madagascar, une colonie française dans l'océan Indien de 1896 à 1960, connaît une évolution notable de son histoire sociale à partir de 1937 avec la reconnaissance du droit syndical aux travailleurs autochtones. La CGT et la CFTC de France créent des sections dans la colonie avec pour mission d'encadrer les travailleurs malgaches dans les luttes syndicales. De 1944 à 1956, période marquée par le processus de décolonisation des colonies françaises, des travailleurs français, réunionnais, malgaches et comoriens militent ensemble à Madagascar dans les organisations syndicales pour défendre les intérêts des travailleurs indépendants ou salariés, à travers les luttes purement syndicales et les luttes politiques. Les syndicats malgaches se sont détachés des centrales métropolitaines à partir de 1956, en faisant prévaloir leur autonomie d'action. Les syndicats demeurent à Madagascar pendant la décolonisation des organisations qui militent pour l'émancipation des Malgaches.
