Description

Field experiment was conducted during the year 2011-2012 at Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari to study the "Weed management in sugarcane under south Gujarat condition". The treatments comprised of fourteen weed management practices.Significantly the lowest weed population and their dry weight were noted under conventional practices of three hand weedings (HW) at 30, 60 and 90 DAP and two interculturing (IC) at 45 and 90 DAP (T2). While, the depletion of nutrients by weeds were significantly the highest under unweeded control (T1). The total uptake of nutrients by sugarcane crop was noted higher in all the thirteen weed management treatments over unweeded control. Thus, potential production, profit and economic weed management can be achieved in sugarcane by three hand weedings (HW) at 30, 60 and 90 DAP and two interculturings (IC) at 45 and 90 DAP (T2) or an application of metribuzin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + one HW and IC at 60 DAP (T6) under south Gujarat condition.
