This is a reference book which describes importance, use and basic information relevant to okra and its improvement. In reference to heterosis, data was collected for yield, quality and resistance to YVMV and utilized for obtaining best cross combination for these traits. The analysis revealed highly significant genetic variation for most of the yield and resistance traits. Recent research findings in okra improvement aspects have been incorporated in the book. The present research would be fruitful during formulating heterosis breeding strategies for okra improvement. Methodology, experimental findings and their relation with earlier researches has been elaborated in the book. Days to first flowering, days to 50% flowering, plant height, fruit length, fruit diameter, no. of fruits/plant and resistance to YVMV are found key traits for hybrid breeding programme of okra. Heterosis and combining ability analysis revealed to find out the best cross combination over better parent in okra. Present book is basically written for Vegetable Science Scholar and persons interested in Okra breeding research.
