Actualmente se necesitan nuevas generaciones de profesores que posean competencias TIC, para ser capaces de responder a las demandas que plantea la Era del Conocimiento. La sociedad globalizada posee nuevas formas de administrar información, de comunicarse, de adquirir y transferir el conocimiento. Estos procesos, sociales y culturales, demandan el desarrollo e incorporación de estándares como referentes para introducir mejoras en la formación de los educadores. Dichos estándares deberían incorporarse en formación inicial de profesores y en la gestión escolar, transformándose en instrumentos que contribuyan al enriquecimiento del concepto aplicado de calidad de la educación. Este libro da cuenta de una investigación cuyo objetivo principal fue realizar un diagnóstico de competencias TIC, en Formación Inicial Docente, para levantar perfiles de ingreso y egreso transversales en carreras de Educación, los que constituyeron la base para proponer estrategias pedagógicas, metodológicas, didácticas y evaluativas que permitieran a los futuros educadores egresar respondiendo a las demandas de un nuevo sistema educativo.
