Doktorarbeit / Dissertation aus dem Jahr 1998 im Fachbereich Politik - Internationale Politik - Region: Osteuropa, Note: gut, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main (Fachbereich Gesellschaftswissenschaften), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im theoretischen Teil dieser Arbeit wird zunächst der Zusammenhang von Nationalismus und Moderne dargestellt, der Nation als funktionales Erfordernis der Moderne versteht. Eng an diesen funktionalistischen Nationsbegriff knüpft das kommunikationstheoretische Modell von Nation an, das die Bedeutung einer standardisierten Hochkultur für Nation, und die Imagination der Zugehörigkeit zur Gemeinschaft einer Nation hervorhebt. Hierbei wird vor allem auf die Theorien von Ernest Gellner, Benedict Anderson und Anthony Smith zurückgegriffen. Die theoretische Konzeption Anthony Smith' bietet dann die Grundlage für die Frage nach der Übersetzung von nationaler Identität in nationales Interesse. Im nächsten Schritt wird Nation im Rückgriff einerseits auf das Konzept der Narrative und andererseits theoretische Überlegungen zur sozialen Vermitteltheit von Erinnerung als Bewußtseinsgemeinschaft gefaßt, deren Konturen aufgrund gegensätzlicher Verarbeitung historischer Erfahrungen unterschiedlich gezeichnet werden können. Damit soll ein theoretischer Rahmen für eine Analyse der historischen Dimension des politischen Denkens wie auch der Politisierung der Geschichte der Armenier geschaffen werden. Zwar entstammt die Theorie des Narrativs nicht der Politikwissenschaft, doch bietet sie operationalisierbare Ansätze, die Begriffe wie Geschichtsbild, nationales Selbstbild oder mythologisches Selbstbild als empirisch konkretisierbare und nachvollziehbare Größen erkennbar werden lassen. Mithilfe des Konzepts der Narrative lassen sich politische Wirkungen dieser Begriffe benennen und analysieren.
