Am 12. Oktober 1984 fand anHiBlich des 70. Geburtstags von Profes sor Dr. Dres. h. c. Wilhelm Doerr, emeritierter ordentlicher Profes sor der allgemeinen Pathologie und pathologischen Anatomie und ehemaliger Direktor des Pathologischen Institutes der UniversiUit Heidelberg, ein Symposion iiber aktuelle Probleme der "Herzhyper trophie" statt. Wilhelm Doerr, am 25. August 1914 in Langen (Kreis Offenbach am Main/Hessen) geboren, studierte in Heidelberg und Marburgl L. Medizin. 1942, 28jahrig, erfolgte die Habilitation bei Alexander Schmincke in Heidelberg. 1m Jahre 1953 wurde Wilhelm Doerr auf den Lehrstuhl fUr Allgemeine Pathologie und pathologische Anato mie der Freien Universitat Berlin berufen, wechselte 1956 nach Kiel und folgte 1963 einem Ruf auf den Lehrstuhl seines Fachgebiets in Heidelberg. Die thematische Ausrichtung des zu Ehren von Wilhelm Doerr durchgefiihrten Symposions griindet im wissenschaftlichen Werk des Jubilars, der 1937 als Doktorand von Alexander Schmincke in das Pathologische Institut der Universitat Heidelberg eintrat. Die Ergebnisse der Inauguraldissertation wurden 1938 in der von Ru dolf Virchow begriindeten und nunmehr nach ihm benannten, der zeit von Wilhelm Doerr redigierten Zeitschrift unter dem Titel "Zwei weitere Falle von HerzmiBbildungen - Ein Beitrag zu Spit zers phylogenetischer Theorie" publiziert. Seither waren Probleme der kardiovaskularen Pathologie zentrale Themen im wissenschaft lichen Werk von Wilhelm Doerr, das bis zum Augenblick weit iiber 300 Publikationen umfaBt.
