Bei Planung, Ausführung und Bau eines neuen Kraftwerkes ist das gemeinschaftliche Denken und Handeln einer großen Anzahl von Ingenieuren auf das eine Ziel ausgerichtet, dieses Kraftwerk kostengünstig, termingerecht und störungsarm in Betrieb zu setzen. Schon im Vorwort des Ersten Bandes wurde dieses Zusammenspiel der Beteiligten kurz er wähnt und im Zweiten Band ausführlich erläutert. Im Zweiten Band "Die Lehre vom Kraftwerksbau" wurde die "Kombinations-", "Integrations-" bzw. die "Verfahrenstechnik" behandelt. Es wurde gezeigt, wie die "Ganz heitsprobleme" von den Projekteuren - den Generalisten - gelöst werden, wie die Kraftwerkselemente zu einer optimalen Einheit zusammenwachsen. Im Dritten Band "Die Kraftwerksausrüstung" sollen nun die Kraftwerkselemente selbst behandelt werden. Hier kommen also die Teilbearbeiter, die Spezialisten, zu Wort, d. h. also z. B. die Kessel- und Turbineningenieure, die Fachleute für Rohrleitungen und Wärmetauseher, die Chemiker und Elektrotechniker. Die Arbeit der Bauingenieure und Architekten wurde schon im Zweiten Band geschildert. Bei dem großen Umfang dieses Gebietes hat es sich als zweckmäßig erwiesen, den Drit ten Band in zwei Teilbänden A und B herauszugeben, wodurch u. a. bei der Darstellung eine größere Übersicht und bessere Anschaulichkeit ermöglicht wurden. Der Umfang des Gesamtwerkes mit mehr als 3000 Seiten und fast 3000 Abbildungen ist recht groß. Wenn man jedoch bedenkt, daß die Herstellungskosten neuer großer Dampfkraftwerke mehrere 100 Millionen DM und dementsprechend die Beratungs- bzw. Bearbeitungskosten mehrere Millionen DM betragen können, dürfte ein solcher Umfang gerechtfertigt sein.
