Elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit (EMV) ist eine unentbehrliche Voraussetzung jeder Elektronikentwicklung, da häufig die enge Nachbarschaft von Leistungs- und Mikroelektronikkomponenten sowie der Einsatz drahtloser Kommunikations- und Datentechniken die Gefahr unerwünschter Funktionsstörungen mit sich bringen. Darüber hinaus ist EMV eine vom Gesetzgeber geforderte Produkteigenschaft, die gleichzeitig individuellen Anforderungen unterschiedlicher Industriezweige genügen muss. In der sechsten Auflage des Buches wurde die Darstellung des inneren Blitzschutzes erweitert, der dank der weiten Verbreitung der Mikroelektronik zunehmend an Bedeutung gewonnen hat. Neue Verfahren der Leistungsbestimmung in komplexen Systemen werden beschrieben. Nach Inkrafttreten der Neufassung des EMV-Gesetzes im Jahr 2008 sind die entsprechenden Kapitel bearbeitet und ergänzt worden. Das Buch führt Studierende in leicht verständlicher Weise in die EMV-Thematik ein und befähigt Hersteller und Entwickler zu eigenen Analysen und Bewertungen ihrer Systeme sowie deren Umgebungsintegration.
