Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,3, Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der SPIEGEL-Leitartikel „Im Gemüsegarten" aus dem Jahre 1958, der das Hessebild in Deutschland bis in die 70er Jahre hinein entscheidend mitgeprägt hat, schreibt über Hermann Hesse: „Der Dichter [Hesse] bleibt in seiner Subjektsphäre verfangen. Es will ihm nicht gelingen eine Objektwelt hinzustellen und in ihr Fuß zu fassen. [...] In immer erneuten Ansätzen und Abwandlungen macht er den Leser zum Mitwisser einer Entwicklung, die mit dem Versagen von den Aufgaben des Lebens beginnt...". Hesse, so heißt es weiter, lasse „seine Leser unentwegt gleichsam die Pubertätszeit repetieren, für die der schmerzhaft empfundene Gegensatz von Trieb und reinem Geist charakteristisch ist." Ist Hesse ein ewiger Pubertant und weltfremder Eskapist, der lediglich Resonanz bei Jugendlichen findet? ... Tatsächlich ist Selbstfindung, Selbstverwirklichung, kurz, Individuation, ein zentrales Motiv in Hesses umfangreichem epischem Werk, was von Hesses Kritikern offensichtlich als Indiz für die Überbetonung pubertärer Identitätssuche aufgefasst wurde. Auch handeln Hesses vor allem frühere Erzählungen und Romane von der Entwicklung eines jungen Menschen, der durch Konflikte mit seinem Umfeld ein Gefühl des Ausgeliefertseins und der Unfreiheit entwickelt, dem der Wunsch nach Selbstbestimmung und Befreiung von gesellschaftlichen und familiären Zwängen gegenübersteht. Thematisiert also Hesse mit dem, was er ‚Menschwerdung' und ‚Erwachen' nannte, lediglich pubertäre Krisen? Wie verhält es sich mit der Individuationsthematik in Hesses Werk und worauf zielt sie ab? Individuation als psychologisches Konzept wurde vor allem von C.G. Jung geprägt und meint einen innerseelischen Prozess...
