Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 1,0, Freie Universität Berlin (Friedrich-Meinecke-Institut), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit befaßt sich mit einer vieldiskutierten Kernfrage der Alten Geschichte: Wie kam es zum Ausbruch des Peloponnesischen Krieges zwischen den Machtblöcken Athen und Sparta? Im Zentrum der Untersuchung steht die tiefgehende Analyse des ersten Buches des Thukydides, allem voran seine scharfsinnige Unterscheidung zwischen „der wahrsten Ursache" und den „Anlässen", die zum Krieg geführt haben. Bisherige Forschungen konzentrierten sich auf die Ermittlung des Kriegsschuldigen, den Thukydides selbst beim genauen Hinsehen gerade nicht bezeichnet. Während die eine Seite die imperiale Machtpolitik der Athener als Kriegsgrund definierte, sah die andere Seite diesen in der aggressiven Kriegspolitik der Spartaner. Die Magisterarbeit zeigt aber, daß die bisherige Forschung nicht das wesentliche erkannt hat - und das liegt am Mangel bei der Auseinandersetzung mit den strukturellen Momenten des Thukydides, insbesondere an einem modernen, aber nicht angemessenen Machtbegriff. Das Thema ist auf Sparta ausgerichtet. Daher befaßt sich der erste Teil der Arbeit mit der Untersuchung des Charakters und der Triebkräfte der spartanischen Außenpolitik. Es wird deutlich, daß Furcht und Sicherheit als wesentliche strukturelle Faktoren die Politik Spartas bestimmten. Im Blickfeld des zweiten Kapitels steht sodann das erste Buch des Thukydides. Die Analyse der „Anlässe" des Krieges zeigt, daß bestimmte feststehende strukturelle Faktoren die Spartaner in den Krieg führten. Im Anschluß folgt eine ausführliche Untersuchung der „wahrsten Ursache". Erst eine interdisziplinäre Betrachtungsweise (d.h. althistorische, altphilologische, philosophische und politologische) ermöglicht eine widerspruchsfreie Interpretation des Thukydides.
