Cet ouvrage décrit une démarche de développement professionnel d’enseignants de l’ISSEG dans laquelle l’auteur a joué différents rôles. Cette démarche de développement voulait contribuer à répondre aux exigences de la transformation de l’E.N.S. de Manéah en Institut Supérieur des Sciences de l’Education. On a privilégié la recherche-développement-action comme mode de démarche parce qu’elle implique un établissement progressif des plans d’action, des procédés et instruments créés au fur et à mesure de l’action, les chercheurs et acteurs ne disposant initialement, comme en recherche-action, ni de connaissances suffisantes, ni de plan détaillé complet, ni d’assurance de succès optimal. La démarche de développement professionnel poursuivie au cours des trois phases fut caractérisée par les composantes de préparation de l’action, de mise en œuvre de l’action et de réflexion rétrospective menées par les partenaires d’action au fur et à mesure du processus de développement. Ces composantes se sont déroulées de manière récurrente tout au long de deux processus complémentaires: le processus d’exploration de conceptions et pratiques et celui d’intégration de savoirs.
