Un moyen d’affiner la taille des grains d’un métal et d’améliorer ses propriétés mécaniques est de lui appliquer une déformation plastique intense à une température relativement basse. Il existe actuellement plusieurs techniques de déformation plastique intense telles que le limage, le broyage mécanique et l’extrusion dans des canaux déviés de section constante. Cette dernière technique consiste à extruder un échantillon à travers un canal coudé de section constante pour atteindre de très forts taux de déformation et obtenir un affinement important de la taille des grains et des distorsions du réseau. Contrairement au broyage mécanique et au limage, l‘extrusion dans des canaux déviés de section constante a l’avantage de produire des matériaux massifs. Dans cet ouvrage, l’évolution de la microstructure et des propriétés mécaniques d’un aluminium industriel au cours de l’extrusion dans des canaux déviés de section constante est étudié. L’effet des recuits ultérieurs sur la stabilité de la structure nanométrique obtenue après déformation plastique intense est aussi étudié.
