D'après le système de classification des langues fondé sur la structure morphologique du mot et élaborée à partir du XIXè siècle, les langues sont classées en types. Mais ce type de classification, le mieux connu en typologie linguistique, ne s'est presque pas étendu aux langues africaines. Nous avons, donc, analysé au sens de W.V. Humboldt (1969) et sur la base de deux textes aja, les indices typologiques et quantitatifs de l'aja. Les analyses ont montré que l'aja est syllabique, de morphologie simple, lexical, analytique de type isolant, et agglutinant. En réalité, la plupart des syllabes de la langue portent individuellement un sens. L'isolation et l'analytisme se manifestent par la longueur du mot en syllabes et en morphèmes très proche du chiffre 1: 1,60 syllabe pour 2,91 phonèmes et 1,32 morphème. La lexicalité se traduit par la prédominance des morphèmes lexicaux (63,37%). Les convergences régulières entre les frontières de syllabe et de morphème dans les mots à jointures morphématiques justifient le degré maximal d'indice d'agglutination (0,99/1). Cet ouvrage intéressera particulièrement les étudiants, enseignants et chercheurs en typologie linguistique.
