La fusión Flash es una tecnología ampliamente utilizada en la fusión primaria de concentrados de cobre (CC) a nivel mundial. No obstante a su amplia utilización y el desarrollo de múltiples estudios para su optimización, la fusión Flash todavía presenta algunos problemas operacionales, relacionados fundamentalmente con el control en la formación de magnetita y el exceso de polvos en los gases de salida. El control de estas variables es difícil debido al pobre entendimiento de las complejas interacciones que se producen entre los distintos procesos involucrados. Una herramienta muy útil para entender estas complejas interacciones es el estudio de la propagación de las llamas a través de las nubes de CC. Partiendo de esta premisa se desarrolló este proyecto de tesis, donde se diseñó e implementó un equipo experimental y se realizaron ensayos de propagación de llamas de CC. Finalmente, se estableció un modelo fenomenológico simplificado que explica el comportamiento observado experimentalmente.
