Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit Aaron Copland's ?Clarinet Concerto? und seinem Widmungsträger Benny Goodman. Durch Vergleiche von Notenbeispielen aus Coplands Skizzen und der gedruckten Fassung werden die Einflüsse Benny Goodmans auf das Werk dargelegt, und es wird untersucht, warum einzelne Passagen in der Klarinettenstimme abgeändert werden mussten. Anschließend wird beschrieben, warum Copland die Vorschläge seiner Freunde zu weiteren Bearbeitungen ablehnte, und welche Bearbeitungen dennoch entstanden sind. Am Ende der Arbeit wird Benny Goodman, für den ja dieses Klarinettenkonzert komponiert worden ist, als klassischer Musiker und als Jazzklarinettist vorgestellt.
