Die Verschränkung von Kunst und Malerei ist durch das Bemühen einer interdisziplinär ausgerichteten Bildwissenschaft vermehrt in den Fokus der Wissenschaft gerückt worden. Der Künstlerfilm bietet dabei ein ergiebiges Forschungsfeld. Bislang wurde die Künstlerbiographie jedoch zumeist auf der Ebene der Narration untersucht, während die Bildebene vernachlässigt wurde. Wie aber sieht die Transformation und Integration eines statischen Gemäldes in das bewegte Filmbild aus? Unter dem intermedialen Aspekt wird diesen Fragen nachgegangen. Die Autorin gibt einführend einen Überblick über die Herausbildung des Künstlertypus in der Geschichte, der im Künstlerfilm seine Fortführung findet. Im zweiten Teil werden Bildtheorien vorgestellt, die die Grundlage zur Analyse der intermedialen Wechselbeziehungen im Künstlerfilm bilden. Die daraus resultierenden Erkenntnisse werden an Beispielanalysen der Filme Caravaggio (1986), Basquiat (1996) und Pollock (2000) verdeutlicht. Das Buch richtet sich an Studierende, Dozenten und an alle film- und kunstwissenschaftlich Interessierte.
