While many have observed, almost in passing, that Metastasio's libretti are somewhat propagandist in support of Emperor Charles VI, there is a lacuna in the research that attempts to prove the point and explain exactly how. This book addresses the role of Metastasio's libretti in eighteenth-century literary and aristocratic society.
